Why we tend to borrow words from English

The reason why Malay language is borrowing words from English language is for the perception that English is an international language and promises better future to those who can speak the language. It is also because English language serves as the second language in our country. Most of Malaysians can converse in English language very well although some of them might not be competent speakers of the language but they have no problem when Malay language borrows the words from English language because they have the knowledge in both of the languages. Therefore, using the words from either language, Malay or English, will bring no effects on them.
Another major reason that can be pointed out here would be that some people want to gain prestige by adopting the words from English. There are a few people who think that by using vocabulary from English, they will look more intelligent and educated as it shows that they have wide knowledge on English. This is because they regard English to be the most prestigeous language.
On the other hand, there are some circumstances which lexical borrowing can be accepted that is to arrive at the word's precise meaning. However, in most cases, Malay language should use its own vocabulary instead of borrowing from English and explanation on this will be provided later in this blog.
